Appliance Removal Guide: Fridges, Washers, and What It Costs

Old appliances are some of the most common calls we get — a fridge that finally died, a washer being replaced, a stove left behind after a move. Here’s what you need to know about getting one removed properly.

Why appliances need special handling

Refrigerators, freezers, and some air conditioning units contain refrigerant that requires proper handling before disposal — you can’t just set them out with regular bulk trash in most areas. Washers, dryers, and stoves are less regulated but are heavy and awkward enough that most people can’t move them alone anyway.

What it typically costs

Single appliance pickups are usually priced similarly to other single-item jobs — one of the more affordable calls we handle, since it’s one item rather than a full load. If you’re replacing multiple appliances at once (say, a kitchen renovation), bundling them into one pickup is more efficient than scheduling separately.

Retailer haul-away vs. calling us

If you’re buying a replacement appliance, ask the retailer if haul-away is included with delivery — sometimes it is, sometimes it costs extra, and sometimes it’s not offered at all for certain appliance types. If it’s not included, isn’t offered, or you’re not replacing the appliance at all, that’s when a dedicated pickup makes sense.

What to do before we arrive

  • Empty the appliance completely (no food left in a fridge or freezer).
  • Disconnect it from power, water, or gas lines if you’re comfortable doing so — otherwise let us know and we’ll work around it.
  • Clear a path from the appliance to the driveway or door so our crew can move it out safely.
